How Advanced Infrastructure built its entire technology organization in India — 24 engineers from IIT, BITS, and IIIT powering the UK's leading energy planning platform.

About Advanced Infrastructure
Advanced Infrastructure is a UK-based data science and software company on a mission to remove barriers to decarbonization. Their flagship product — LAEP+ — is a cloud-based planning platform and digital twin for energy systems, used by some of the UK and Ireland's largest energy network operators, local authorities, and renewable developers. LAEP+ brings electricity network capacity, building retrofits, heat networks, and EV rollout planning into a single integrated tool — giving planners the data and modelling they need to accelerate the energy transition. Clients include National Grid, UK Power Networks, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, ESB Networks, Oxford City Council, and Birmingham City Council. One client reported over 50% cost reductions and 75% faster delivery of local area energy plans using the platform. Advanced Infrastructure won the BREA Award and the Unlock Net Zero Award in 2025.
The Challenge
Advanced Infrastructure builds data pipelines for electricity data across the entire energy lifecycle — production, distribution, and consumption. The scale of this data is staggering. Every substation, every cable, every meter, every generation asset across a national grid produces continuous readings — and that data has to be ingested, processed, modelled, and served in real time. The sheer volume rivals what only the largest technology companies in the world handle: even companies like Amazon and Walmart, with hundreds of millions of transactions, would struggle to match the data density of a national electricity network at full fidelity. Building on top of this data requires engineers who don't just write good code — they need to build systems that are scalable to multiple orders of magnitude, fault-tolerant under failure conditions where the stakes are literal infrastructure, and high-performance enough to serve planning queries over enormous geospatial datasets in seconds. Finding engineers in the UK with this combination — energy domain knowledge, large-scale data engineering, and geospatial systems experience — was proving extremely difficult and prohibitively expensive.
India's top engineering talent — graduates from IIT, BITS Pilani, and IIIT with experience at companies like Razorpay, Samsung, and MPL — brings a combination of academic rigour and real-world product engineering that's rare elsewhere. These engineers have built high-scale systems for demanding consumer and enterprise products. For Advanced Infrastructure, this meant a team that could own complex backend architecture and ship production-quality software from day one, not after months of ramping up.
What We Built
GCC Nexus built Advanced Infrastructure's entire technology organization in India starting in 2022. The first engineers were placed within 6 weeks of the initial brief. GCC Nexus handled everything end-to-end: sourcing and vetting engineers from India's top geospatial and SaaS engineering talent pool, onboarding them under the GCC Nexus EOR entity, managing all payroll, HR, and statutory compliance, and ensuring the India team was fully aligned with Advanced Infrastructure's UK-based leadership and product roadmap. Three years on, the entire product and engineering function — more than 20 engineers — operates remotely from India, with GCC Nexus continuing to manage all employment infrastructure.
